July 31, 2024We’re in an age where most people use WhatsApp for daily messages between friends, coworkers, and family members, making it the most used chatting application in the world.
Why would you want to backup your conversations?
Backups are very important for when an issue happens with your phone or you just decide to switch phones, keeping an up-to-date backup will help a lot keeping not only the conversations, but the images and videos as well.
Things to keep in mind beforing backing up your conversations
1- You must have a Google account (for Android) and an iCloud account (for iPhones).
2- Enough free space in the cloud to perform the backup – Google gives 15GB of free storage and Apple gives 5GB of free storage.
3- A stable internet connection.
If you decide to backup your converstaions using 4G/5G, WhatsApp may reject or inform you that you’re using your mobile data, and you can either accept it or choose to only backup via WiFi.
Steps to perform the backup
1- Go to Settings > Chats > Chat backup
2- Click on Auto backup to select to automatically back up your conversations Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Off (manually).
3- You can choose to include videos by clicking on the Include videos toggle to turn it on – but will take more cloud storage space.
If you’ve opted to back up your conversations manually, you will have to click on the Back up now button every time you want to back up your conversations and stay up-to-date.
Cons of manual backup
Backing up your conversations manually is not the greatest option because you may forget to back up your conversations and your device could have issues or even get stolen, so the safest option is to set a recurring backup.
